Frequently Asked Questions

Gas MIG vs flux core - which should I use?

Gas MIG (solid wire + C25) produces cleaner welds with less spatter and is best indoors. Flux core (gasless) works in wind and on slightly dirty metal with no bottle to buy - better for outdoor repairs and budget setups.

Can one machine do both gas MIG and flux core?

Yes - every Simder MIG welder polarity-swaps between solid wire with gas and gasless flux core. You only change wire rolls and flip the polarity per the manual's diagram.

What wire size do flux core welders use?

0.030 in for thin sheet metal up to about 1/8 in, and 0.035 in for heavier stock. Both sizes are stocked in the MIG Welding Wire collection, including the 25-piece .035 non-coated kit.

Is flux core strong enough for structural repair?

For hobby frames, brackets, and equipment repair, E71T-GS flux core delivers solid penetration on mild steel. For critical or load-bearing welds, practice passes and proper joint prep matter more than the process choice.
